I used to be active on Facebook. I’ve never let my friend list get huge, and I refused to connect with people I didn’t know or worked with. I prefer some little amount of privacy, and I don’t want to live my life online. I deactivated my account however, when political rants and racist, bigoted commentary begin taking over my feed just before the election last year. I have not missed Facebook.
However. Can I have a successful freelance blogging business without it? I accept that clients expect you to link to your articles for them on your social media feeds, and I’m fine doing that over at LinkedIn or on Instagram. I’m not on twitter, and I may change that, but my biggest concern is Facebook. It’s a point of personal pride to me that I’m no longer using it, and that I have not allowed it space in my life. I think it can be the worst kind of toxic, and I sure as hell don’t need that on a daily basis.
I suppose I could just start a business account and limit it to writing and connecting with the freelance community. I will have to look into that and how to grow that portion of my business. It’s all a learning process, and it’s intimidating, but I’ll get there.
